Daily Painting Challenge

Build your painting skills by creating a painting using a painting medium of your choice.

TASK: Everyday, for one week, spend at least 30 minutes painting on the same piece. (This is 2 hours total if you draw for 4 days.)

MATERIALS: Paint--. acrylic, tempera, craft, watercolor, oil, spray paint, house paint, whatever you have at home. Surface--paper, canvas, wood, cardboard, ???, whatever you have at home. If necessary, create your own drawing/painting implement and create your own ink/paint . Coffee, spices, tea , fruit, leaves , and flowers that leave a stain work their way into these paintings on paper. I also like found substrates- paper bags, cardboard, old cloth.

PROCESS:

  • Find a subject to paint. You could set up a still life (objects arranged on a surface), paint what you see outside, work on a self portrait by looking in the mirror or paint any object, person or animal you have at home to observe. You may also paint from your imagination.
  • Think about composition (where you decide to place objects on the paper) tips here
  • Do a quick thumbnail sketch or two to practice drawing the object shapes and work out your composition.
  • Paint! Make a full painting now. Try using visual measuring to establish angles and find correct proportions.
  • When finished, take a picture and upload to the Blackbaud Assignment AND the group project slideshow or the week.
