Students should clean up 5 minutes before end of class unless painting or other messier than average activity
GENERAL CLEAN UP
Responsible and courteous people clean up after themselves and most others notice and appreciate this effort. Art students are taught proper clean-up procedures that should be followed on a daily basis...(if not the rest of their lives.) Students are responsible for cleaning their entire work area and it is greatly appreciated when a student takes the initiative to clean an area, even if they have not have worked there.
There are many reasons to keep our art room clean:
· More time is available to work on art projects when things are easy to find and everyone pitches in during clean up.
· Consideration to students in the following classes avoids:
*Ruining other’s artwork
*Ruining other’s clothing
*Others having to clean up a mess they didn’t make
*Potential safety risks
· Valuable class time is not wasted searching for tools/materials.
· Tools and equipment last longer and function more safely and effectively.
· Work stored properly ensures projects don’t end up missing or accidentally broken.
· Clean all areas that have been worked in completely.
· Tools and materials—Return to proper locations
· Sinks—Remove all materials from the sink and put in drying rack or return to proper storage area. Glue, paint
globs etc…are difficult to clean up when they dry on the bottom of the sink. Please rinse glue and paint out of the
sink after washing paint brushes etc…
· Counters & Tables—Wipe off any paint, glue, other spills.
· Floors—Pick up trash and sweep if necessary or if asked to.
· Return to seat—Instructor announcements and dismisses class after all student work areas have are cleaned.
Brushes washed thoroughly
· Occasionally, students may be asked to help others clean up.
WORK STORAGE
· Students are assigned a drawer to keep most of their work.
· Most students will have a ‘roommate’ in their drawer.
· Please be considerate with this space and keep it clutter free.
· Work that will not fit in the drawer will need to be stored elsewhere. Ask instructor to help find a safe place to put projects.
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES
· The classroom is well organized to make it easy for students to find things and return them to their respective places.
· Students should ask where things go if they are unsure.
· Students should try to keep everything in good condition, if there is a problem, promptly report it to the instructor.
· Storing materials or tools in drawers makes them difficult and time consuming to locate.
Cooperation in putting materials and tools away is
VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
FINISHED WORK
· Students are taught to cut mats and frame their artwork.
· Art work is displayed in the dome.
· Work is taken home after it has been graded and displayed
for a trimester.
Students are taught to respect each other’s artwork and asked not to touch work without prior permission from the artist. Some artwork is very fragile and can be broken easily.
DISMISSAL
When everything is cleaned up, students:
· Return to seats
· Get last minute instructions
· Dismissed by instructor
· Push in chairs— (for safety as well as courtesy)
*If students are late exiting the art room, passes will given if they have been asked to stay by the instructor.*
